The Baldur's Gate 3 camping system is a mechanic you're going to have to get familiar with during your time with the game, as you'll be collecting lots of Camp Supplies and partaking in plenty of Short Rests and Long Rests to energise your party.

Baldur's Gate 3 brings the mechanics and gameplay of Dungeons & Dragons 5e to the video game medium, meaning players of the tabletop RPG may be familiar with much of the systems in place. However, if this is your first time trying an RPG this complex, some of the features may need explaining in depth.

So, below we'll cover everything you need to know about camping in Baldur's Gate 3, including what separates a Short Rest and Long Rest, and how to get Camp Supplies.

In Baldur's Gate 3, you have a Camp where you and your companions can rest while adventuring. It serves as an isolated little hub area separate from the maps you'll explore during most of the gameplay.

There are a fair few things you can do while camping in Baldur's Gate 3, such as:

It's worth noting that while you can talk to your party outside of Camp, some unique dialogues and events will occur when talking to them in the Camp instead.

To access your Camp in the game, you'll need to select the fireplace icon on the right side of the UI bar at the bottom of the screen to bring up the Camp and Resting menu. From there, click 'Go to Camp'. To leave the Camp once there, press the same button.

The Baldur's Gate 3 Camp and Resting menu also features an additional two buttons for a Short Rest and Long Rest.

Rests are ways for your party of characters to regain their health and abilities, making them more useful in combat encounters, but both types of resting work differently.

A Short Rest can be performed twice a day, and doesn't require you to go into the Camp itself, with the effects occurring immediately. Instead, your party will regain 50% of their HP, and any Warlock characters will restore their spell slots.

Long Rests instead will end the current day, and take you to the Camp during nighttime. This will fully restore the HP and spell slots for all party members.

To perform a Long Rest in Baldur's Gate 3, you will need to select a bed in the centre of the camp and use enough Camp Supplies to fully rest everyone. A cutscene will play as everyone sleeps, and once it's done, everyone will be rested and ready to go again.

Baldur's Gate 3 Camp Supplies are food items and can be found almost everywhere when exploring, and they are what fuel Long Rests to allow your party to restore their HP and spell slots in full.

Each food item will contribute a specific amount of Camp Supplies, which is noted in their description window; to fully rest, you will need 40 Camp Supplies.

It's worth making sure you always have enough Camp Supplies in Baldur's Gate 3, otherwise, you won't be able to effectively Long Rest your party, causing them to suffer during combat.

That's our full breakdown of the Baldur's Gate 3 camping system and the different rest types. For more Baldur's Gate 3 guides, stay on GGRecon.
